I'm surprised that no one's posted here that much, and since I've had a lot of crazy dreams lately, I thought I'd share a dream I had last night.
I was living in a HUGE, luxurious hotel-like place. The decor was just glorious and detailed. I've had hotel-residence type of dreams in the past. This was probably the largest and most ornate (carved, stone guilded banisters, mirrors, soft plush carpeting, elaborate wallpaper, etc.). Although, it was modern and large, it had a historic feel to it (like an Edwardian-style hotel in Manhattan). Anyway, I went down to a small cafeteria situated at the ground floor of my building (small and plain in relation to the building) to have a coffee and cake with my mother. I wanted to get a cheesecake, but it was still being made and not ready yet. So I decided to go back down there later at night. When I got there, either the lady had closed up shop for the evening or was in the process of doing her books and so the place was deserted and dark. I saw a large silver paper bag where large slices of the cheesecake were contained, and then swiped it (an out of character thing for me in real life:)) After I grabbed the bag, I quickly made my way to the elevators. Once I was in the elevator, I had trouble finding the 10th floor (which is the floor I live on in real life as well as the dream). I kept going up and down, trying to get to the 10th floor but always missing it by a few floors. I finally ended up getting off either a few floors above or below. Getting off the elevators, I went to a beautiful ornate open staircase area with elaborately carved stone bannisters. It was a kind of square-shaped winding staircase, where I could see the landings for all the floors above and below. I proceeded to go up and down the stairs, looking for the 10th floor. Strangely, I could get to the 9th and the 11th easily, but kept missing the 10th. Finally I abandoned the main staircase area and went to some 'back', narrow staircases that were sort of hidden along the walls (almost like a maze, but still very ornate and elaborately carved and designed). These were the staircases that the maids used to get around the building, and I think I even passed a maid or two. This was late at night when most of the residents were probably asleep, so skulking around the back staircases with a silver bag of stolen cheesecake, there was a feeling of guilt and worry of being caught. Finally, after going up and down these back hidden staircases, I finally found the elusive 10th floor, and then instantly woke up.
When I thought of this dream later, to me it seemed like the hotel and luxury around me represented the life and success that I'm seeing around me and should be experiencing for myself. Yet, for me specifically, it seems out of reach, that I can't find it. Like I'm here, but I'm not. I am not sure what stealing the cake meant, especially as it was a trifling thing that I stole and it's not as though I couldn't afford to pay for it. I guess it was an issue of availability, in that I stole it because I thought the place was closed and I really wanted that cheesecake! Food, especially sweets, is a big issue for me and something I'm having a hard time controlling right now. I recognize that this lack of food control, the extreme cravings, is holding me back. It was a pretty interesting dream, and I think that it really shows my preception of where I feel I am in life. That feeling of seeing all this cool stuff around me and being so close and not finding my own floor really stayed with me after I woke up.
