Week-ahead aspects for Monday, Aug. 4, 2008
Published by rachel under Daily Astrology
Dear Friend and Reader:
Welcome to the working week. We are currently in the two-week interval between two eclipses - an opening in time and in our ability to create new patterns in our lives. Try living the life you want for this fortnight, to the best extent you can. You can do this with your choices, and with your conduct. It is easier than you may think to decide how you feel. I know, it often seems impossible, but it’s a skill.
We are still in the new phase of the Moon, which is now in Virgo. Driving home from the Ulster County Fair tonight, the new crescent hung above the horizon with its otherworldly glow. In any lunar month, the first few days of the cycle are the time to plant seeds of what we want to grow. The difference between this waxing phase and most others is that the New Moon was a total solar eclipse (plenty of coverage below) and the Full Moon is a lunar eclipse. Personally, I prefer this order (sometimes it goes from lunar to solar, which I find a little more difficult to grasp intuitively).
This week’s aspects were prepared by Genevieve Salerno.
Yours & truly,
~Eric Francis
4 Monday: Moon enters Libra 10:28 pm EDT.
5 Tuesday: Venus enters Virgo 12:20 am EDT (just past midnight). Venus trine Pluto.
Venus sesquiquadrate Jupiter retrograde in Capricorn. This transit speaks very clearly of the desires that we try to keep down. There has been a movement among people in the counterculture to try to go as Spartan as possible at all costs. This is a meaningful social trend, one worth looking into given the country’s addiction to consumming products at the cost of the Earth itself. But the danger that could arise here is that every time we see something in the land of material possessions that we want, we flog ourselves with guilt over wanting it, without trying to figure out why we want it, or if we need it. These aspects are all Earth-related, and that speaks to our values. Are you expressing your values to your fullest extent, or are you trying to take shortcuts by spending time and energy on things that are perceived necessities? Are you downplaying your needs to avoid the guilt of wanting or of having? There is plenty you can do experiment with the balance of a life of fullfillment without greed, and of selflessness within wealth. Venus in Virgo sesquiquadrate Jupiter in earthbound Capricorn may give us the opportunity to experience real need, but necessity is the mother of invention, and desperation is the wellspring of freedom.
6 Wednesday: Mars in Virgo opposes Uranus retrograde in Pisces. [This kind of aspect is usually interpreted as some shade of risky, volatile or unstable. I would give this a three out of five-star caution for those with depression or anger management issues. Keep cool and find healthy ways to vent.] Mercury in Leo opposes Neptune, not the most straightforward aspect, but definitely imaginative. Leo Sun square Psyche in Scorpio.
7 Thursday: Moon enters Scorpio at 7:26 am EDT. Eros in Leo trines Eris in Aries and 1992 QB1. Venus in Virgo square a retrograde Hylonome in Sagittarius.
8 Friday: FIRST QUARTER MOON. Juno stations direct in Sagittarius. Juno is the cosmic body associated with marriage and equal exchange, or the lack thereof. Now that she has stationed direct in Sagittarius, the sign of lofty ideals, she presents us with the challenge of knowing the difference between a battle worth fighting and a demand placed upon you or others that is too dogmatic to be realistic. Remember, if while in an encounter with another person, you hear the voice in your head start off with: “THOU SHALT NOT…” (directed at someone else, i.e., a controlling voice) you might want to analyze its purpose a bit more before applying it to your relationships. Is this a matter of true integrity or is it a jealous wound that requires some special attention? Mercury trine the Great Attractor. Eros in Leo opposes Neptune in Aquarius. Not a good time to settle scores, or to keep score.
9 Saturday: Moon enters Sagittarius at 7:10 pm EDT. Leonine Mercury trine Pluto retrograde in Sagittarius. Mercury sesquiquadrate Jupiter retrograde in Capricorn.
10 Sunday: Mercury conjoins Orcus in the 29th degree Leo. According to the Sabian symbols, the 29th degree of Leo is: “A mermaid emerges from the ocean waves ready for rebirth in human form.” Very deep spiritual thirst for the reintegration of wonder in daily life applies to this aspect. There is plenty of room for magic in your life every day, but it may require some organization. What could you do to make your life more in tune with the energy that flows from the element water? Water is the essence of all life and also its nourisher. In a way, water is the breast milk of Mother Earth. Perhaps now would be a good time to find a body of moving water and see what thoughts enter your mind.
Anything in the final degrees of a sign is also resonating with Pluto, which creates a deep-seated feeling of the subconscious trying to emerge. What kind of steps can you take in your life to make yourself ready for the spiritual awakening that is on its way? Is there anything you have been doing or thinking that might be getting in your own way? Mercury in Leo has been an attempt to realign the heart (Leo) with the mind (Mercury). Now that it is leaving this sign, it joins Orcus, the namesake of the killer whale, to give us a picture of the ultimate courage that any creature can have: taking steps towards its own rebirth. When heart and mind are united, no choice is a waste of time.
