Well, my take on it is that if we never look inward at ourselves, at the parts of us hidden from sight, our "darkness" as well as our intuitions, instincts and thoughts, then all we'll ever know is the surface of material life, which is as "nothing". But if we go deeply inward, look into our dark parts, feel and face it all, we learn - through that process - how life works. How this universe is designed, how it moves, how we create it through our energies, and so we end up aware of all that is. We also discover how we're "just like" our brother or sister, we gain understanding of so much that makes any of us the way we are here. And because when we do the inner work, we end up raising each thing to our heart... we end up also coming to know who we each and all really are, in truth. We are a micro of the macro, essentially. Study yourself deeply, you know the all. So inward, to our depths, is the way we unify with everything.

to know ones self is to learn about all that we are/were/will be. learning about all of our selves... past lives, alternate universes: the depths of himself... that we came from God and will return to God. eventually ...
