Would anyone happen to know how amythest quartz would lose it's purple color and turn into a clear quartz?

Thanks Sowelu, but this has been kept out of the sun and bubbled wrapped each time I have not used it and is in a box.
My first initial thought when I contemplated it was, "Hmmm, am I affecting it on some frequency /vibratory level"?

Ed-You have drained the amethyst of it's power-hehe!
I have heard of this happening. Try giving it to someone else for a while and see if the color comes back and get another one in the mean time, apparently you benefit a great deal from it, as do many others.
I have some clear quartz crystals (local Lemuria Diamonds) that are turning amethyst.

Apparently heat can also cause amethyst to change color or lose color, depending on the degree and duration. Perhaps having it all wrapped up and stored, it got hot? Dunno...

Interesting thread, never seen this form of crystal color-changing happen in my life! And I know and have known lots of crystals <smiles> Maybe just not enough people who use them though ;-)

Heat is not a factor except once a week. While in the box it is not getting heated at all. The only heat source is from the warm/hot water It recieves Once a week. This has only been going on for roughly 3 months of using it once a week. That's as long as I have had it. Nearly 3 months but not quite. I don't know if I can give this crystal to anyone else, for it was specially encoded for me, so I am thinking it is changing as I am changing perhaps? Perhaps changing in vibration/frequency was my first thought when I first started to notice the lack of purple color to the Amythest crystal. If that is the case, does anyone know what that means from going to Amythest to a Clear Quartz in properties? Does it mean the crystal is adusting to my vibration or am I taking the life out of the crystal and it may be dying? Thank you so far for all the comments. It's much appriciated. Well, I had been wondering about the symbolic significance of it all, Ed, and there's a lot to support the idea that it has lost it's purple and gone to clear as a result of your own growth. Purple is transformation, clear is clear. heh heh. As we "work" our awareness shifts, we actually generate frequency emanations much like the sun does with it's rays, though they are not in the visible spectrum (for most of us). The crystal/amethyst, on the other hand, is likely impacted at a basic level. I had the thought pop in that our own "conscious light" is akin to the sun's light, they both signify the same thing. So being exposed to your light may well be similar to being exposed to direct sunlight. Not sure, but there does seem to be symbolic significance supporting your intuition, Ed.

Ed,
why not just ask the crystal, see if it knows what and why its happening? I think you are in tune enough to trust what you might get on it.
And I think you are probably already on the right track with Sowely there.
Love, Dutchy
ps I think the Amethist is not dying... commune with it more maybe.. why keep it bubble wrapped though? Theres something of a resistace I feel when I think about the crystal being wrapped in thick plastic. I like that you are protecting it and being very respectful to it... but don't you have any silk or something like that to wrap it in?

Ed - If you want the scientific explanation also, here it is as I understand it... webexhibits.org/causesofcolor/12.htmlHere's a quote that would support Sowelu's heat suggestion (I wonder if dunking it in hot water might have done it?): webexhibits.org/causesofcolor/12.htmlWith some intuition, perhaps this quartz is releasing light to you.. as Annarita has suggested (you quartz-sucker, you!), but remember that the harnessing a certain kind of light - the violet energy, and that indicates information. A message. Or just an inspiration / revitalization for your crown chakra, while you were "down." It seems that you intend to use it, and you may be seeing a direct effect of that use in the quartz. Have you also talked with your guides about it? Good luck finding the explanation!

Huh... there may be more here than meets the eye, Ed. I find it interesting that two people in two different forums post about a similar situation within the same week, first off. Second... something resonates about the last post in the following quoted conversation from another forum:
I'm wondering if recent shifts in the global/realm influx of celestial energies has increased the impact of our own energies on our environment. Crystals are very sensitive entities, and so may be the first to reflect the greater impact we have on our surroundings.
At the same time that we are being informed that our manifestation abilities are increasing, these conversations appear. Just feels... significant.

I would never cleanse a crystal in hot water. I always use cold. Crystals enjoy being in the air and sunlight and or moonlight. I would try burying it in the soil for a week and see if it gets it's color back. Generally as I understand, a crystal is ready to be retired when it fades in color. To be buried and left or set on a shelf and not used again. But the heat and being wrapped in plastic could be a factor. Burying it will give it a deep grounding and cleansing. I would start there and see what the results are. You could buy two regulare ones, since there are readily available and not pricey at all, treat one as you do the one that faded and use clod water to cleanse the other one and leave it out in the open air. You could even come up with a variable or two.
