Esoteric Astrology for the week of November 17 - 23, 2005
Via Combusta (The Burning Way)[/b][/size]
We are in the last week of Scorpio, the first week of the Mercury retro, the eighth week of Mars retro, Thanksgiving week, Christmas is in four weeks, and the New Year six. And in Europe Paris is (has been) burning. The important question is: What is the nature of the message sent by the fiery violence that has raged in the Paris suburbs for the past two weeks causing France to issue, for the first time in fifty years, a state of emergency?
Two issues are involved: One is an isolationism where the teens were not integrated into the community where they could feel a part of something bigger than themselves. Instead they withdrew into themselves and the separativeness went underground and in this case lead to radicalism and violence. The second is the continuing ideological myth in France that there is "unity within the Republic" even as French politicians bury their heads in sands outdated and unrealistic.
An interesting astrological situation, the Via Combusta (the Burning Way, the Combust Way), is occurring that has influenced Paris and other world disasters. This "burning way" refers to the section of the zodiac between 15 Libra and 15 Scorpio considered to be unpredictable, disruptive, like a Mars/Uranus transit, and very "volatile" especially when a major planet is involved. Jupiter, the ruler of fiery Sagittarius, and the bringer of things very large with legal and religious overtones, entered this 30 degree range mid December 2004. Within weeks the Indonesian Tsunami occurred. Later hurricanes Katrina and Rita. And now the fires in France whose chart shows significant planets (Sun, Jupiter, Chiron) in Libra and Scorpio.
Jupiter in Scorpio (along with Saturn in Leo -- change in governments) forces us into greater awareness. It also creates very stressful events and profound upheavals that eventually reorient our thinking. Jupiter remains in this "Via Combusta" window until September 2006. Therefore we can expect an acceleration of highly stressful, political, and personal times ahead. Which, based on the past year, shouldn't surprise us. We need to be further prepared, though.
The week: This is "Break the Chain Week," focusing consumers on purchasing green, fair, and equitable products and leading to December's "Buy Local" from the day after Thanksgiving through December, the busiest month of buying. See www.organicconsumers.org/btc.htm.
Thursday is the peak of the Leonid meteor showers. The bright Moon will obscure many of them, but look after midnight for the dust trail from Temple-Tuttle. Thursday is sombre, earnest, and thoughtful. Thursday night and Friday morning are void-of-course (v/c) until 11:42 (PST) Friday morning when Moon enters nurturing Cancer. Friday afternoon we're challenged to choose an entirely different path. We can. Saturday and Sunday we seek mother, satisfying foods, warm waters, and things that sustain. Sunday night is v/c from 8:03 pm till 10:10 pm (PST) when the Moon enters, "I am what I create" Leo.
Monday, after many nebulous hours of seeking what's real, the Sun enters Sagittarius at 9:15 pm (PST). We emerge from the mysterious and testing Scorpio waters, saddle up our white horse and ride out into the midnight Sun. We are seeking Capricorn and it will take us a month of wandering to find that signature of God. Tuesday, early morning, Saturn retrogrades and we review all structures, skills, authority, responsibility, and disciplines for the prevailing structures are tired now. Moon is v/c Tuesday evening at 9:25 pm till 10:41 am (PST) Wednesday morning. With the Moon in Virgo all the details of Thanksgiving, of service and of gratitude begin to emerge. It is good to ask, "Who, why and how are we serving and what are we grateful for this year?"
