Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007 | Venus opposes Uranus, Taurus Full Moon
As I write this, Venus (15+ Virgo) is minutes away from exacting an opposition to Uranus (15+ Pisces) at 10:47 AM here in NYC. We are also hours away from the Taurus Full Moon, which takes place tonight at 11:51 PM, in New York City.
Venus' recent transit through Leo has been a time for fearlessness of the heart. Now, with Venus in Virgo, there's been a feeling of pulling back a little bit from more reckless desires. Virgo (although an earth sign like Taurus) is ruled by Mercury -- making it a decidedly mental sign. Although this may give us the protection of safety and prudence when it comes to affairs of the heart or finances, as well as a 'lady'-like demeanor, there is a danger of being too analytical and calculative.
Pisces is a deeply intuitive, psychic, sensitive, emotional sign--indeed, the sign that is representative of cosmic consciousness. Uranus (or Prometheus the Awakener, as Richard Tarnas refers to him) is the ruler of Aquarius, the sign before Pisces; he helps us break through the layers of awareness into this level of higher cosmic consciousness. Its long transit in Pisces is rearranging us from deep within our core, getting us in touch with the more subtle sensitivities of our souls, helping us discover sparks of quivering emotion we didn't know existed.
As the Taurus Moon opposes the Scorpio Sun, we get a vivid theme of surrender and trust. Taurus represents physical realm and the Earth, the planet that sustains us and all life. Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, until it's recent 'demotion' to dwarf status, was the furthest 'official' planet of our Solar System. Scorpio is the sign that goes beyond what is apparently real and deals with the deeper themes of sex, death, surrender -- a highly penetrative sign. Pluto bestows upon it the qualities of surrender, inevitable cyclical transformation and resurrection.
No doubt we have a high intensity day of revelation and completion ahead, with the Full Moon in the backdrop (or, rather, center stage). There is a highly watery, electric charge to the energy, causing us to act on our desires. Emotional outbursts could be rather revealing of what we may have been hiding, even from ourselves. We are under an intense phase of re-evaluating our most intimate needs and desires regarding sex, along with our ideas about what it takes for us to feel truly secure, whether in a relationship or independently. It's about taking a creative or emotional risk right now, and we can possibly expect some sort of revelation.
What seems so out of control is still within a higher cosmic plan. What is being called for today is a level of trust and stability (inherent in the nature of Taurus) in the face of upheaval. This is truly one of the strongest signs I have seen in its ability to persevere. This strength, I find, comes from the ability to trust in the safety and protection of nature and its cycles. In times of crisis, we can always look around and find comfort in the physical to reassure us that things aren't so bad after all. As long as we can find a warm place and a good cup of soup, everything can seem a little better and more manageable. In Taurus, the Moon is exalted, making it easier to access its highest qualities of sensitivity, emotion, intuitiveness, soul and nurturing stability.
But underneath the collected facade of Taurus lies a dormant fiery volcano of deeply sexual, passionate, primal energy. As the Moon grows full in Taurus and opposes the Scorpio Sun, and as Venus and Uranus aspect, find the courage to leave behind your defenses and dare to reach into the heart of the matter -- that's where the true gem lies. We can also look back to the seeds we planted in Spring at the time of the Taurus New Moon. This is a time of manifestation, pleasure and reveling in our of our most natural, earthy desires while being connected and aware of the spirit beyond and within.
Indeed, life can be so transient and fleeting -- all we have is now, and it's what we make of it.
