Tests and Triumphs in Scorpio and the Relinquishment of Desire
There is an evolutionary stage concerning desire that is particularly noticeable in Scorpio. Scorpio is the sign of total transformation (Pluto as one ruler). It is also the sign of tests as related to desire (Mars as the second ruler of Scorpio, represents both desire and the tests concerning our desires.) Each sign has a specific keynote signifying a trait or behavior that is the impelling impulse leading us onward. At each stage of our evolution we must leave the previous impelling commands behind and take up a new command or behavior. Scorpio's keynote statement is, "I Desire," and therefore it is in Scorpio where we finally relinquish that desire (for previous ways of being). With this relinquishment of desire we experience great disappointments and emotional pain. We feel a deep level of despair as we realize the objects of our earlier desires are no longer available. These are both the experiences and the tests of Scorpio.
After acknowledging that a shift has occurred within us, we begin to ask ourselves, "What are we to do now that we have lost the feeling of desire and impelling direction desire provides?"
First it is good to understand the steps beyond desire. We need what would be called a spiritual geography lesson to understand the path we will follow. It must be asked, "What is the next level above desire?" It is aspiration. Note the word "aspiration." It is from the Latin "ad" -- to and "spirare" -- to breathe, to breath towards. What is the level above aspiration? It is inspiration (in-spirare). Aspiration (fiery determination) must precede inspiration (a breathing in. on the level of intuition). Whereas desire is purely emotional, aspiration is more of a mental state, and inspiration is purely intuitional, something received and breathed in.
The understanding of the Full Sun/Moon opportunities must also be understood, especially when desire has left us. During the Full Sun/Moon time (and up until the next New Moon) all the opportunities of that sign are available. We could say that it is that particular sign's service to humanity in its offering of specific spiritual gifts so that humanity can evolve. And it is specifically during Scorpio where we need far greater assistance since the tests are so difficult and the despair so real. Therefore, and quite knowingly from the Lords of Scorpio, during the Full Sun/Moon in Scorpio there are three lights of illumination available to us. But it's in code and decipherable only if we look at the sign Scorpio esoterically.
The code for the information on illumination available in Scorpio is seen in the three legs of Scorpio's symbol, which, when deciphered, informs us that there are three levels of balance available in Scorpio. They are:
1. the light of regeneration (repolarization of the physical toward Spirit),
2. transmutation (alchemical alteration of the emotional field), and
3. illumination (knowledge available through the mind).
