What is your Soul-Color?
(from Care2)
Adapted from Tarot of the Four Elements, by Isha Lerner and Amy Erickson (Inner Traditions, 2004).
Each of us has one color that resonates strongly for us, just as we have deep preferences for certain tastes or activities. But colors have a primal life of their own which can affect your senses, alter your mood, and soothe your soul as you allow the color vibrations to enter your heart and mind. And our choice of favorite color can give us valuable information about the nature of our soul, and its task in this life.
Simple Solution:
Find out what your soul-color has to teach you, here:
First, close your eyes and think of the seven colors of the rainbow, or the chakras: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. Imagine that you can see your deepest soul-self surrounded by one of these colors. Which color do you see? Imagine that you see each of these colors in pools at your feet. Which one attracts you most? When you are clear about the color that resonates most strongly for you, open your eyes and read about it:
Violet
Violet has a strong relation to mysticism, spiritual insights, intuitive flashes, and ingenious ideas. Violet is the color of the crown chakra, located at the top of the head, and may help in stimulating the imagination, remembering dreams, and strengthening ESP. Violet can be used to steady the focus in meditation and help one’s higher mental concentration. there is also a sense of power, authority, and majesty associated with violet because it has the shortest wavelength and fastest frequency.
Indigo
This color is associated with the brow chakra, also known as the third eye. This chakra is awakened through meditation, visualization exercises, and--in particular--by building the rainbow bridge between personality and soul. This is a lifelong effort and something that probably takes many lifetimes to complete. Once the rainbow bridge is functioning, a human being should develop “continuity of consciousness”--so that the soul within becomes the directing entity and what happens in the dream and sleep states is recollected easily with no distortion or forgetfulness.
Blue
The color of the sky, blue has been associated with mental expansion, thought power, the search for peace, faith, and heavenly aspirations. Blue should normally be an uplifting color. It may be that when we are troubled by conflicting thoughts and confusing choices in life, and cannot seem to make the higher decisions that are necessary, then the shadow side of this color manifests and brings about depression instead of elation, enthusiasm, and exaltation. Because clear and unpolluted seas, rivers, and oceanic currents reflect the sky like a mirror, blue is also linked to water and the experience of baptism or psychic cleansing. Blue is the color of the throat chakra, so this color also has a strong rapport with language, words, and verbal and literary expression.
Green
Green is the color we associate with the heart chakra, and is linked with Libra, the traditional sign of love, romance, and marriage. Green attempts to harmonize, mediate, balance, and bring equilibrium in life. As a primary color of nature and the plant kingdom, this color is soothing and calming. However, when our heart centers are off kilter, we can experience jealousy and negative emotions. Green has a dynamic quality that we associate with moving forward, confirming that a project, plan, or activity is approved.
Yellow
This color is linked to the solar plexus chakra, and our ability to radiate self-confidence and courage. Yellow also stimulates our intellectual functions. This may be because many people still think with their gut--speaking and then acting on gut feelings and impulses. Yellow is the color of gold, the metal associated with the sun and royalty, so it is associated with the physical sun itself and its life-giving powers. To Buddhists, yellow is the color of humility, hence its use in the monk’s saffron robe.
Orange
Stimulating and exciting, orange has an intoxicating and provocative influence on our consciousness and being. It is the color associated with the sacral chakra influencing sexuality. If you are having problems in this area of life, the color orange may give your femininity or masculinity a boost. On the other hand, if you are trying to tone down this area of expression, keep your distance from this color. Orange and indigo share an important link, because people on the path of meditation and spiritual discipleship are often trying to transmute or shift energy from the sexual center to the brow or third eye, located at the center of the forehead and associated with the attainment of inner wisdom.
Red
As the color of blood, red suggests the rich essence that allows us to live and breathe in the world. Red suggests raw power, physical strength, and vivid emotional expression. As the primary color associated with the base of the spine chakra, red is linked with the kundalini power that is said to sleep at the root of our being. When the kundalini is aroused through years of meditation, soul-searching, and enlightenment, the red color of our earthiest reality (the base of the spine chakra) merges with the violet color of our highest heavenly presence (the crown chakra)--transfiguring our consciousness in life-empowering ways.
