LILITH and the BLUE MOON
For much of the world, the month of July ends with a grand finale, like a
final burst of fireworks. A Blue Moon is a second full moon in the same
month. We had one on July 2 and will again on July 31< at 2:04 pm EDT. Check
your time zone. If the Full Moon for you is on August 1, you¹ll have a Blue
Moon on August 30.
Of course, it¹s not really blue. But it feels special. <Once in a blue moon>
refers to a rare event. This happens only every two or three years. This
Moon is part of the fulfillment of the Venus retrograde cycle.
Glorious Venus soon completes her transfiguration, coming forward to close
the loop on her retrograde circle which began mid-May at 26 degrees Gemini.
Venus is back at 26 degrees again on August 2. Most of the time Venus stays
in a sign less than a month; when making a retrograde loop, she extends her
stay. In Gemini since April, it¹s been a four month, multi-level dialogue.
The first week of August, Venus moves into Cancer.
And so does Black Moon Lilith.
This Venus retrograde cycle has been particularly potent in its evocation of
the cosmic feminine. When Venus journeys to the underworld, diving below the
horizon, the goddess within taps at our hearts. This time, in a rare
crossing of the Sun, Venus claimed our attention, infusing the solar life
force with Beauty and a call for values clarification.
AND Venus has been talking with Pluto, god of destruction and renewal,
opposite in the sky. Though we can¹t see this tiny remote planet, it is as
if this god or goddess of recycling is on hand, very serious about bringing
more JOY into life. We can¹t live without it, or our hearts will shrink.
AND Black Moon Lilith has been whispering of cosmic mysteries, accompanying
Venus in Gemini.
The 26 Gemini degree on which Venus focussed is opposite the galactic center
of the Milky Way. Even our most remote frequency telescopes cannot penetrate
the thick clouds of nebulosity and vibrant cosmic activity that accelerate
as we peer toward this centerpoint. Venus in Gemini has been downloading
powerful, invisible data from this heart of the Milky Way. Scientists think
a black hole lurks here and powers the galaxy, like the minotaur at the
center of the labyrinth. Physicist Stephen Hawking, who has been studying
black holes for his whole career, recently announced some new thinking on
this dark matter. Instead of eating all the information it sucks in, he now
thinks that a black hole will release at least some of that data. Like the
number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin, this is a
quintessentially urgent philosophical point. It means something like: when
you go through a deep transformation, which feels like going into a black
hole, you can come out and still be your essential self. Only the ego is
burned away. That is good news to remember when Pluto conjuncts the galactic
center point in 2007, on our way to the 2012 gateway, when Venus again
crosses the face of the Sun.
Lilith may be the power behind or inside the black hole. Rather than some
cosmic monster, why not the power of love and creation? An alternate version
of the labyrinth story placed the high priestess Ariadne at the heart of the
labyrinth. Let¹s head in there and transform the monster.
If Lilith is new to you, you are ready. Not to be taken for granted in any
way, Lilith blesses those with Beginner¹s Mind. She takes by surprise, takes
your breath away. In Cancer, she doesn¹t just take, she gives. She weaves
the matrix, whatever is needed
.
Let¹s celebrate the Blue Moon with a song! Two songs!
<Blue Moon of Kentucky> is Kentucky's official state bluegrass song:
Blue moon of Kentucky, keep on shining,
Shine on the one that's gone and proved untrue;
Blue moon of Kentucky, keep on shining,
Shine on the one that's gone and left me blue.
Through this Venus cycle, some people have been singing the blues. For some
it¹s time to let go of an unhappy relationship or job. For many, it is time
to re-evaluate finances. How and on what are you spending money? What is
your tax money doing? Are you feeling trapped in a consumer society? Values
and life style, appreciating true beauty and richness in life these are
all Venus issues. Abundance is a cosmic given. Turn your mind toward
fulfillment. The two full moons are sure to bring high emotional tides this
month. Lilith into Cancer will call us deep into the cosmic seas and
relentless tides of change. What leads to true security? <I will return to
remind you of what you really want> she promises.
There is the other famous song:
Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for
And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the Moon it turned to gold.
As we follow the subtle rhythms of our cosmic dance, enjoy the morning glory
of Venus and may the Blue Moon turn to gold in your heart.
