The past few months, I've been having lots of vivid and weird dreams, but I rarely remember them enough to try and interpret them. Last night (or rather this morning) I had two that I actually remembered, the second seemed to flow from the first. Here they are:
In the first dream, I am climbing a local mountain in my city along with my high school class. We're climbing it in single file, and I'm one of the first or the first in line. I can't remember if we're attached by ropes or not, but there are thirty or so people behind me. Now, the interesting thing of all this is that I've never rock- or mountain-climbed in my life, and it would be physically impossible for me to do it. In the dream, that was the case as well, and the whole time I kept thinking that it was not possible, that I was not competent at it in order to succeed. But somehow, I manage to climb the mountain and eventually reached a particular patch near the top which seemed completely impossible to climb or figure out a way around. It seemed like a vertical sheet of rock with overhangs and only 'ripples' to hang on to. So I was scared as hell, and each step/maneuver seemed to take at least half an hour to plan and execute. And then there was the anxiety of knowing there were all these people behind waiting for me to finish. But finally, to my own disbelief, I manage to find my way through the difficult patch and reach the top of the mountain. Then, because I was able to successfully make my way through this patch, the other people were able to follow me. Also, in the process of going through the difficult patch, I spotted a far easier and quicker route to the top, and was able to guide people to it. I could even go back down a little and climb through it myself with no difficulty at all. Anyway, we all got to the top, where there was a restaurant, and we had a nice dinner, which I forgot to pay for.
In my second dream, I was in the city where I grew up and where my parents live. It is in the same metropolitan area as the mountain in my first dream, but further down south and very flat. In my dream, it appeared arid and very sparse in vegetation (in real life, it is green and of pleasant climate). Anyway, I was at my mother's house, and there was a childhood friend of my sister's sitting quietly in a corner by herself. In real life, she would be an adult, but in the dream she was childlike and very short - almost like a dwarf. I went to the kitchen, and my mother came and told me that this girl's mother had died from some kind of virus. My mother had directed her to sit in the corner and not touch anything because she was afraid the girl might be infected with the same virus that killed her mother. The girl's two sisters came to the house and we all met in the kitchen trying to think of what to do. While we were talking, the girl came to where we were all standing and began putting her hands all over the microwave and in other places, against my mother's directions. I warned my mother she was doing this purposely and we needed to get her to a doctor to find out if she had the virus or not. The girl then put her arms around me as if to give me a hug, but the real intention was to touch me and possibly pass on the germs. However, I was more concerned about the girl touching my mother, because my mother's health was not that good, and I had a tougher immune system and a better chance of fighting it if I were infected. Then, the girl and her sisters dispersed, presumably on their way to the doctor's, and my mother and I followed. On the way, my mother gave me several important instructions on what to tell the doctor when I got there. So it became my task to find the girl and bring her to the doctor. It seemed like I was on some kind of quest, scouring the city, trying to get clues, and also hiding from some people who were after me for some reason. I also discovered that the virus had started to spread throughout the city and eleven people had died from it already. By the end of the dream, I had located the girl and her sisters at a downtown location. But just as I was about to cross a busy intersection to get there, I was blocked by a police shoot-out. The dream ended at this point.
My interpretation of the first dream is that it is about an important internal journey, surmounting obstacles, that I'm pretty close to completing. And my successful completion of the journey will help others to do the same. My interpretation of the second dream is that I carry on my shoulders the responsibility of stopping a disaster and saving everyone else. And that this tendency to take on the responsibility for others was taught to me by my mother. I am not clear exactly why the two dreams are related, except that in both cases everyone is depending on me. Maybe this is all about responsibility? I'm also not sure if the dreams are about something I must do, or whether it is a caution against me doing something or a revelation that I am doing something that is counterproductive to my own well-being. In terms of shouldering a lot of responsibility, in the first dream I was successful while in the second dream I was not. Any ideas for what the two dreams mean and why they might be connected would be welcome!
Thanks!
